Central Goldfields Shire Council
The RACV Energy Breakthrough is a highly successful tourism event that involves participants constructing and trailing energy efficient vehicles. An initiative of the Central Goldfields Shire Council (CGSC), the event, held annually in Maryborough since 1991, attracts more than 20,000 visitors to the town and surrounding region and accounts for about 25 per cent of the region's annual visitor numbers. The RACV Energy Breakthrough provides significant revenue injection for local businesses and the general community, as well as contributing to permanent improvements in infrastructure and amenities. It also fosters a growing tourism connection between regional communities thorughout Victoria and around Australia.
