Casterton Kelpie Association (Australian Kelpie Muster)

Mention the South West Victorian town of Casterton these days and the image of an Australian icon springs immediately to the minds of most. The Kelpie and Casterton have become synonymous, but ten years ago most people would have heard of neither. In 1997, the first working dog auction was held at the local saleyards, taking bids from the back of a utility. From there the event has continued to grow, with the introduction of the first Casterton Kelpie Festival in 2001. The Australian Kelpie Muster, held every Queens Birthday long weekend in June, is organised and presented by the Casterton Kelpie Association Incorporated. The two day event comprises of the Kelpie Festival on the Saturday and Working Dog Auction on the Sunday.
