Bendigo 2004 Commonwealth Youth Games The official message of the 2004 Commonwealth Youth Games was “to join with us to celebrate the spirit of participation”. With this similar spirit, Bendigo succeeded and shone as an international sporting event destination. The 2nd Commonwealth Youth Games were held in the vibrant regional city from 29 November to 4 December 2004. The event attracted more than 1,000 young, elite athletes and team officials representing 24 countries and competing in 10 sporting events. More than 14,000 people visited Bendigo’s sporting venues to see many future sporting legends. It was to be an invaluable international competition for the youth of the Commonwealth, most of who hope to compete in the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games.
