Peter Fergusson

Adjunct Professor OAM

Peter FergussonIn 1984, Peter was the recipient of the Victorian Tourism Award for Outstanding Contribution by an Individual, a once in a lifetime honour from the Industry. In 2003, he again received this accolade, surprisingly,as it was mandated that the Award should not be given to the same person twice. In addition, in 2003, he was a recipient of a Medal of the Order of Australia for Service to Wine and Tourism in the Yarra Valley.

Peter was an early Adjunct Professor at Swinburne University, after driving its development of wine and tourism courses to provide a workforce for the blossoming Yarra Valley Tourism sector.

Fergusson Winery was one of the first in the Yarra Valley revival of the 1970's, and remained famous for its spit-roast lunches and superb wines for the local and international visitor from inception. Peter's nature & spirit was demonstrated when his business continued undaunted after a disastrous fire in 1989.

Peter was President of the Yarra Valley Wine Growers Association for more than two decades, Chairman of the Yarra Valley and Dandenong Ranges Tourism Board for nearly twenty years, and a member or advocate for many Wine and Tourism groups in the Yarra Valley.

Peter Fergusson has travelled globally, and written for many influential tourism and wine operations.
