Mentor Program
Recognising that Victoria has a number of industry leaders, the Victorian Tourism Awards Unit has enlisted the support of former Judges and Hall of Fame winners to continue the successful Mentor Program. This group of experienced people is willing to volunteer their time and expertise to assist operators with advice and guidance about preparing a quality Tourism Awards submission. For the 2007 Awards Program, 69 businesses participated in the Mentor Program. The following selection of testimonials from participants in the 2007 Program will help you understand the program benefits.
“I found the mentoring program very valuable and my Mentor was extremely helpful. I am very pleased with the submission we prepared and I believe that this is partially due to having a mentor who was able to provide constructive criticism and give some very helpful suggestions along the way! I would certainly enrol in the mentoring program again next year!”
Despite being geographically far away (and rather time poor) my mentor took the time to ensure we could meet up and was of great assistance to me writing my application. As a first time applicant I had many questions that my mentor was able to steer me in the correct direction so as to achieve the best outcome. I will most definitely apply to have a mentor when applying in the future.
My mentor was a wealth of information and critically went over my work offering tips and advice to edit and improve my submission. My Mentor was fantastic, thorough and gave me a lot of undivided time. Thanks to the guidance provided by my Mentor I was able to focus on each question in a set time frame so not be panicky at the end. I am thankful I had such a devoted mentor with experience and understanding.
Application Process
- To register for the Mentor Program, applicants must first have submitted a Nomination Form for the 2008 Victorian Tourism Awards.
- Once the Nomination Form has been completed and sent to the Awards Unit, please complete, sign and return the following Mentor Application Form (DOC - 27KB) via email to Jacqueline Barsenbach ). The close out date for applications to the Mentor Program is Friday 30 May 2008.
- The Awards Unit will confirm your acceptance into the Program and appoint a Mentor to work with you. Both parties will be advised via email.
- The Tourism Awards Unit will provide a copy of your Nomination Form to your Mentor and request the Mentor to make contact with you to schedule your initial meeting. Your Nomination Form will be provided to the Mentor to allow them to start preparing for your 1st meeting. During the 1st meeting, the Mentor and Mentee will determine the type of preparation required for each meeting and how often meetings will occur.
- The Mentor will contact you directly to arrange a suitable meeting date and time.
- 24 hours prior, each meeting will be reconfirmed by the Mentor.
- All support from the Mentor will cease by Wednesday 6th August 2008, which is 2 weeks prior to the submission due date (Wednesday 20th August 2008). By this stage the bulk of the submission should be completed with layout design, printing and binding being the primary focus.
