Australian Tourism Awards
Qantas Australian Tourism Awards
The Qantas Australian Tourism Awards were held at the National Convention Centre in Canberra on Friday 29th February 2008. Nine hundred tourism operators and industry leaders from across Australia attended the Australian Tourism Awards presentation in Canberra on Friday 29 February. Minister for Tourism, Tim Holding led the 85 strong Victorian delegation. Finalists for the Qantas Australian Tourism Awards are drawn from the State and Territory Tourism Awards across 27 categories.
The passion and dedication of Australia’s tourism operators were recognised as the tourism industry’s “best of the best” were announced.
Victorian tourism operators have been named among the nation’s best, winning six awards.
Victoria won the following categories:
- Festivals & Events – Fun4 Kids Festival;
- Meetings & Business Tourism – Geelong Otway Tourism;
- Hosted Accommodation – Monreale Estate;
- Tour &/or Transport Operators – Go West Tours
- Deluxe Accommodation – Crown Promenade Hotel;
Highly Commended:
- Indigenous Tourism – Koorie Heritage Trust
These businesses are the cream of Victoria’s tourism industry and have done exceptionally well to be named among the nation’s best against tough competition from all the other states and territories.
Geelong Otway Tourism and the Fun4Kids Festival have won their category two years in a row and will be in the running for the National Hall of Fame next year if they win again at the Melbourne Airport 2008 Victorian Tourism Awards on Monday 17 November 2008.
The Australian Tourism Awards
The Australian Tourism Awards were first introduced in 1985 to recognise excellence in Australia’s burgeoning tourism industry. The Awards have been managed centrally through a range of organisations and rotate the Awards ceremony annually through each State and Territory. Tourism Victoria has provided substantial assistance and expertise to the Australian Tourism Awards over the past six years.
The Australian Tourism Awards establishes the categories and questions that each State program utilises to ensure consistency and equality across the country.
