Accreditation
While entrants in the Victorian Tourism Awards do not have to be accredited, the requirements of the two processes have been designed to be similar to as to minimise the workload in obtaining accreditation.
Accreditation is also one way of demonstrating an entrant’s professionalism. Accredited entrants are encouraged to answer questions to highlight participation in tourism related accreditation programs where relevant.
Accreditation programs such as the Better Business Tourism Accreditation Program are based on a set of nationally endorsed industry standards that provides tourism businesses with a structured action plan for improvement. These could include enhanced management capabilities of the owner/operator, an improved tourism product and a higher level of customer satisfaction. Accreditation is a tool to enhance business performance and provide a framework to continue to raise the level of professionalism in the tourism industry.
Standards include:
- Effective Business Planning
- Professional Customer Service
- Accuracy in Advertising
- Compliance with Health and Safety Standards
- Appropriate Business Licensing
- Sound Environmental Practices
Businesses becoming accredited demonstrate their commitment and achievement of these industry standards. 'The distinctive Accreditation logo displayed by accredited businesses signifies their commitment to industry standards, professionalism and continuous improvement' or ' Accredited operators have a commitment to professionalism and ethical conduct in all areas of their business. You can choose an accredited operator with confidence.'
